Online Music Services & Copyright Law

How Copyright Law Enables and Impedes Five Types of Online Music Services
Original Program Date:October 26, 2011
Duration:1 hour 2 minutes

Description

Music lockers online make it possible for users to keep their music in the cloud and access it whenever they like, on any number of devices.  But what are the rules of the road for these online music services?  How about Internet radio?  Find out about how the law makes these and other music services possible, and where the industry is headed.  Learn how copyright law affects music services such as iTunes, Spotify, Grooveshark, and Pandora - and understand how these and future services are likely to be affected by ongoing changes in the law.  This program takes a look at how copyright law affects five key types of online music services – and how the law helps or impedes consumers’ ability to get music online, and listen to it anywhere, on any device. Consumers also want online music services that can suggest new music and provide a lot of choice, all at a low price. Lawyers viewing this program will gain an understanding of the rights at issue in the online music context, as well as infringement of those rights, liability, fair use, licensing, safe harbors, enforcement, and other remedies.
